Ah, Roma. This city of magnificent architectural wonders is a step back into the past. The cobblestone alleys open up to grand structures, and with an unexpected turn of the corner, there’s the Pantheon. The Roman Forum and Colosseum remind visitors of the might of the ancient Roman Empire. No trip to Rome is complete without a stop into the Vatican City for a better look at antiquities, and the most amazing art of Michelangelo’s hand–the Sistine Chapel.
What to See: There are plenty museums of marble statuary, grand structures like the Spanish Steps, and art galleries that hold Roman art and master Renaissance works. The most memorable experience in Rome is no doubt a night at the opera.
What to Eat: Pizza is the way to eat, and here it’s topped with fresh basil and the most delicious cheese in existence (it’s a matter of opinion!). Cool off on hot days with gelato options from fresh fruit flavors to chocolatey Nutella. Rome has the finest pasta selection, and delicious vino (wine, of course) that’s cheaper than the water.
Don’t Miss: Who knew Rome was such a romantic city in the evening? Plan ahead with dinner reservations atop a rooftop restaurant, and take a trip on foot to see the Trevi Fountain lit up at night. This city makes the perfect place for evening walk in the piazzas with fountains after dinner.
